An intimate crowd listened intently in Student Union Building I\u2019s Patriot Lounge to hear Barr highlight the positives of a third party choice and the high level of dissatisfaction that many Americans hold for the current administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[There is] complete disdain of American liberties,\u201d said Barr, explaining his decision to leave the Republican party in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Barr said he believes he is a good alternative to Presidential Candidates Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain because he has a plan to decrease \u201cbig government.\u201d  \u201cIf you\u2019re for Republican big government then vote for John McCain, if you\u2019re for Democrat big government, vote for Barack Obama,\u201d said Barr, going so far as to say he would like to see the Department of Education dismantled.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/masonvotes.gmu.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/img_0483.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"415\" height=\"228\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-311\" title=\"img_0483\" src=\"http:\/\/masonvotes.gmu.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/img_0483.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/masonvotes.masonstudentmedia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/img_0483.jpg 415w, https:\/\/masonvotes.masonstudentmedia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/img_0483-300x164.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 415px) 100vw, 415px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Several audience members had the opportunity to interact with Barr when he opened the format for questions.
